Parliament on Tuesday approved supplementary demands for grants amounting to Rs 51,463 crore for the current fiscal and passed the Manipur Budget for 2025-26. The Rajya Sabha returned four bills to the Lok Sabha, which had already cleared them on March 11.

Key Approvals

  • Supplementary demands for grants of Rs 1,861 crore for Manipur (2024-25).
  • Excess grants of Rs 1,291 crore for 2021-22.
  • Net additional spending of Rs 51,462.86 crore, with Rs 6.27 lakh crore adjusted through savings and receipts.
  • Rs 5.54 lakh crore allocated for debt repayment.

Manipur Budget Highlights

  • Total receipts: Rs 35,368 crore
  • Total expenditure: Rs 35,104 crore
  • State’s own tax revenue: Rs 2,634 crore, non-tax revenue Rs 400 crore
  • Vote on Account: Rs 17,947 crore for six months
  • Rs 500 crore contingency fund for Manipur, currently under President’s Rule

The budget provisions follow the Article 356 Proclamation issued on February 13, 2025, placing Manipur’s legislative powers under Parliament’s authority.
