Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora on Monday inaugurated the Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) Mela in Guwahati. The three-day event, organized by the Assam Agriculture Department in collaboration with the Assam Small Farmers Agribusiness Consortium, is being held at Shilpgram, Panjabari.
The event aims to strengthen FPOs by encouraging farmers to adopt commercially viable crops. Minister Bora highlighted that over 600 FPOs operate in Assam, with their products worth ₹4,000 crore exported outside the state between 2022-24. He noted that educated youth are increasingly engaging in agriculture, contributing to the sector’s growth.
The Mela features FPOs from 12 districts, along with representatives from Meghalaya. Minister Bora emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of establishing 10,000 FPOs nationwide to empower small and marginal farmers. He also mentioned that under the Mukhyamantri Utkarsh Yojana, the 2025-26 Assam budget has allocated ₹10 lakh each for 500 FPOs to cover operational costs.
The event was attended by senior officials, including APC and Agriculture Commissioner Aruna Rajoria, Director of Agriculture Bhaskar Pegu, NABARD’s Chief General Manager Loken Das, and other dignitaries. Representatives of FPOs expressed gratitude for government support, stating that such initiatives help them grow and expand their businesses.
