The government has appointed Finance Secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey as the 11th chairman of SEBI, replacing Madhabi Puri Buch, whose tenure ends on February 28. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his appointment for a three-year term.
Who is Tuhin Pandey?
A 1987-batch IAS officer from the Odisha cadre, Pandey has held key positions in the Finance Ministry, including as the longest-serving Secretary of DIPAM, overseeing public sector disinvestments. He played a key role in the privatisation of Air India and managed government equity in public sector enterprises.
Pandey also served in the Planning Commission (now NITI Aayog), Cabinet Secretariat, and Ministry of Commerce. He was involved in drafting the 2025-26 Budget and the new Income Tax Bill.
With extensive experience in finance, taxation, and investment, Pandey’s appointment is expected to shape India’s financial regulatory landscape in the coming years.
