The Cabinet has amended the Assam Private Universities Act, 2007, introducing a security clearance requirement before granting approval. The new rules also ensure private universities follow state education guidelines and remain distinct from specialized institutions.

New Electronics Policy to Boost Investment

To attract investments in the electronics sector, the government introduced the Assam Electronics System Design & Manufacturing (ESDM) Policy. This aims to increase local manufacturing and strengthen Assam’s position in the industry.

Support for Unemployed Engineers

The Cabinet has eased rules for graduate and diploma engineers bidding on government projects. If bidders do not meet the 35% net worth requirement, they can form a Special Joint Venture (SJV). The government will also provide access to construction equipment and technical support.

Mandatory Use of Bamboo in Public Buildings

To promote eco-friendly infrastructure and support Assam’s bamboo industry, the government has made it mandatory to use at least 5% bamboo-based materials in all new public buildings under the Public Works Department (PWD).

These decisions aim to drive education, industry growth, and sustainable development in Assam.
