Cybercrimes, particularly digital arrest scams, have surged in India, nearly tripling between 2022 and 2024, with financial losses increasing 21 times, Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar informed the Rajya Sabha.
According to data from the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP):
- In 2022, 39,925 cases were reported, with a total defrauded amount of ₹91.14 crore.
- By 2024, cases rose to 1,23,672, with financial losses reaching ₹1,935.51 crore.
- In just two months of 2025, 17,718 cases have already been reported, amounting to ₹210.21 crore in fraud.
The rapid rise in cyber fraud highlights the growing threat of digital crimes, urging stronger security measures and awareness campaigns to protect citizens.
